Geraldine Diana Severino
(Flynn), daughter of Diana Dwan Flynn (Borlase) and Henry Leonard
Flynn, was born in Sydney, Australia 0n May 31, 1942 and spent her
younger years in Kensington, Sydney, NSW living with her parents and
grandparents; Edward Norris Borlase and Madeliene Anne Borlase
(Dwan).
Later moving to Maroubra at
15 years of age she attended Maroubra Junction Girls High School, a
finishing school, and as a Junior started working in a Sydney
Office. Still later she was sent by Management to the NCR College
for Accounting Machine Operators. This later experience led to her
working with Electronic Accounting Machines which progressed still
further to working with Computers.
An opportunity came up that
allowed her to work alongside Ted Noffs at the Wayside Chapel, as
Ted’s honorary Public relations officer; work that was mainly
voluntary and on Sundays, and later she was offered a full time
position but at that stage was also studying at Julian Ashton Art
School and preferred part time work.
While attending Julian
Ashton Art School Mrs. Severino met her husband, Michele Severino,
who later taught at the Art school and she went on to study for a
degree at the Sydney College of the Arts.
During that time their
first Daughter Skye was born, requiring her to go back to part time
work and part time art school, which all came to a halt when their
second daughter Danae was born. From that point Mrs. Severino went
back to small, part time positions of Clerical/Accounting work.
A small, permanent part
time position at the Rookwood Cemetery changed her direction
completely. Among her duties of clerical and computer work, she also
began doing research within the cemetery as people phoned, wrote or
called in looking for deceased friends, family and loved ones. That
turned up all sorts of facts regarding her own family, some known by
her family and some not, looking up old cemetery books and data
bases, as well as working with Society of Australian Genealogical
Research materials
It proved to be a very
rewarding position, and when results were found during that period
of time, she began scanning photos and old documents from her own
huge collection of family documents, newspaper clippings and photos;
dictating that the time had come to put together and preserve her
own family history.
Gathering all her papers
together, with her dog, she headed up the Mid North Coast to the
family beach house, hoping for peace and quiet and time to research,
collate and document her family history and details for both
historic and personal reasons. Since then Mrs. Severino has been an
avid researcher and has contributed much to not only the
preservation of her own family heritage, but has graciously and
freely assisted others in that quest as well. |
